讲座标题:Older people at work: problems and opportunities for individuals and organizations
讲座摘要:
Summary:There are demographic, economic, social, organizational, and psychological factors that bring the issue of an aging workforce to the forefront of political debate and scientific research. The presentation addresses several of these aspects, primarily from a psychosocial perspective. Demographic data are presented to enable a comparison between China and Europe regarding the aging of both current and future workforces. The discussion then shifts to a perspective that considers older workers as valuable organizational resources, whose development is shaped by adulthood-specific growth processes, in line with a lifespan approach.Various forms of ageism present in society and in human resource management are explored. Possible organizational interventions are proposed to counter stereotypes and discrimination, which hinder the full recognition of older workers’ potential. Particular attention is given to the role of work design as a strategy to adapt tasks and job roles to the specific characteristics and needs of older employees. Finally, the concept of subjective age is introduced as a useful framework for understanding the motivations, aspirations, and expectations of older workers.
